A new Egypt?

February 6, 2011
"It 's relatively quiet now, still people are in the square and are protesting, not much progress is happening though. The violence is over.. for now
Fertile ground for weird rumors and scare tactics, the government has been doing this for ages and they are really good at it,
bombing incidents in a couple of remote areas, no causalities but it's like they're saying 'see the chaos? you need us'
people aren't buying in to it this time though, all the focus is on Cairo now and what the next move is gonna be.
We're back to work, less hours to make it home in time before the curfew, no one is focused still, all we can talk about is what's going on"

I'm of course thankful that the violence is dying down but I fear that this is just to silence the people.  I hope that these events truly do bring the much desired change for the people of Egypt.  I hope to see their beautiful country at peace again soon.

Day of Departure... Update from Egypt

February 4, 2011
"I just got back from Tahrir Square where hundreds of thousands of people were demonstrating peacefully..as we have always been doing,
in spite of all the violence we've been facing from the pro-regime people..aka the hired thugs, police, businessmen and the threatened government employees.

Parts of the square looked like a war zone, burnt, turned over cars used to shield the anti-government demonstrators from the attacks, makeshift helmets and shields, barbed wire, stones and broken glass from the Molotov cocktail attacks.

There are signs that there might be solutions to the situation soon but it's all very fragile at the moment.
We're all hoping that this will all be over soon without going back to square one..for the people who died for our freedom can't have died for nothing.

We're all still safe and doing our best to help the cause in any possible way, the death threat I got really shook me, I never thought that I would ever be threatened in that way and it was very, very real..just because I was trying to help the trapped and wounded people.
Fortunately, today was a relatively good day and spirits are high and there's still hope."

Our hopes and prayers are with all of your brave people.  Stand strong Egypt!

Message #3 from Cairo

February 3, 2011
"it's getting harder everyday to help and show support.Today, a random car took pictures of friends who were buying medical supplies and food for the injured people and then tried to run them over here in my neighborhood, the tactics being used against us are really dirty.
They are terrorizing us so we wouldn't get out of our houses and join the people in the square. I'm afraid at this rate they might close in and get rid of them, the square is literally a war zone, guns and Molotov cocktails are being used against unarmed men, women and children.
Everyday comes with a different plan, I still don't know what we are doing today, we are supposed to have a another march of millions tomorrow but I'm afraid those people will be finished by then. All you can do now is spread the word, I'll keep you posted for as long as I can."

musing is being taken over

For the next few blogs I am going to redirect my blog to something more important than the mere musings in my head.  I am going to be posting updates and messages from my friend in Egypt.  This information needs to be spread.

Message 1.  The day the internet came back.  February 2nd, 2011
"
I'm fine, we just got the internet back, they cut us off from the world last Friday hoping to kill the whole movement..fuckers!!
I've seen sooo many things that I'd never thought I'd see in my life, it's been really scary but amazing at the same time, the whole system was corrupted beyond belief to the point that the entire police force withdrew from the whole country right after they released all the criminals from prisons to scare people! I've been standing guard in the street with the people in the neighborhood every night and protesting in the morning. Criminals were attacking houses, looting and killing but people here were awesome, arming and organizing them selves and making checkpoints every where, there's so much to tell, every day since Tuesday was like a week of events! I'll try to be on Skype Saturday if they keep the internet running!

Love you! Big hug!"

Message 2.  February 2nd, 2011

"I feel so helpless Mel..women and children and unarmed men are being beaten to death and I can't get in to help, I was almost stoned trying to get in today, first aid was banned from being delivered to anyone in there, it's really horrible. Trust is a huge issue now and I don't know where this is going, the president has lost his mind.
I don't want to worry you but I don't think the media is explaining the scale of this event, they sealed of the square and let armed criminals and police officers in regular clothes in today to finish off the people in there! Please spread  the word, in case the internet goes down again, I'll keep you posted all the time, we are still fine all of us, together, mom dad and me are together in cairo and my sis and her husband are ok too.
Love you"
